Social and political unrest have caused changes in the insurance market in recent years. For instance, companies with operations out of Chile and Colombia need to be weary that protests, vandalism and strikes are now very common. Covid-19 is exacerbating these violent conditions as some demographics are being hit harder by the effects of the pandemic.
This violence is causing insurers to restrict and/or exclude these events in local and foreign policies. In order to adapt to coverage changes, many companies are resorting to purchasing more expensive standalone policies with comprehensive wording.
